| Great Fox was a Dreadnought-class Heavy Cruiser and the mothership of Team Star Fox from the beginning of the Fox McCloud generation up until the Aparoid Invasion. It served as a carrier that held several Arwings in its hanger, alongside Landmasters and a Blue Marine. It was usually stationed by ROB-64.
While the Star Fox Team was commanded by James McCloud, James had placed an order in with Space Dynamics Corporation, Limited for one of their Dreadnought-class Heavy Cruisers to use as the mothership for the team. However, due to the costs, he was forced to take out an 80 year loan on the ship. Before he was able to use it, however, Team Star Fox was contracted to investigate Venom. Pigma betrayed the team, and James was captured and presumably killed. This left the uncompleted ship with a new owner, his son Fox McCloud.
During the Attack on Venom, Great Fox was used to help destroy several Zeram-class Battleships and Harlock-class Frigates by bombarding their weak bridges. Once Fox had defeated Andross, Great Fox came with them back to Corneria.
During the time leading up to the Saurian Incident, Great Fox had come under extreme disrepair. Since Team Star Fox had not received offers for jobs, they were running extremely low on funds and could not keep up with the increasing demands of maintaining their equipment. However, General Pepper contacted the team, offering a contract for a job to help return Sauria (then known as Dinosaur Planet) to equilibrium because some unknown energy was forcing parts of the planet to break off from its main crust. Team Star Fox immediately responded and took the job. Great Fox had gotten under such extreme disrepair that she was not able to help Fox too much. She barely had enough power to have her engines power to keep her drifting in an eliptical orbit around the planet.
After being paid for the Saurian mission, Star Fox was able to not only repair but completely retrofit all their equipment, including Great Fox. She had now taken on an extremely more angular look alongside the rest of their equipment and was able to funtion at 100% again. She was even able to have a transmitter installed, which allowed for point-to-point transmission of vehicles. This proved to be of great help on many occasions, most notably Katina and Sauria. Great Fox was used to ferry the team into the Venomian Rebel battle over Fortuna. Peppy, after retiring from flight, had used Great Fox to be able to oversee the team's operations directly from the bridge. He still gave his usual advice from the bridge. She once again played a large part in the Invasion of the Aparoid Homeworld. Great Fox lead the group of Cornerian Defense Force ships in the surprise attack on the world, but most ships were quickly overcome by the Aparoids. The task force had to pull back, leaving Star Fox to fend for themselves in taking down the shield. Eventually, Fox destroyed all the Aparoid Hatchers and opened the Core Shield. However, another ray shield immediately closed in on the open spaces, not allowing any of the team to pass through. At this moment, Peppy came in flying Great Fox, which was becoming overrun with Aparoids, directly aimed at the shield. In a last ditch effort, Peppy rammed Great Fox into the shield, opening a hole for Star Fox (and incidentally Team Star Wolf) to get in. She exploded shortly afterward, presumably killing Peppy and ROB. However, this was not so. After destroying the homeworld, Peppy and ROB were seen floating in a debris field. As it turns out, the bridge became a secondary escape pod, and Peppy and ROB were able to escape the explosion. They all then travelled back to Corneria. Yet Great Fox was officially lost. The team subsequently replaced the destroyed ship with a decomissioned Cornerian Assault Carrier, lovingly dubbed Great Fox II.
