Peppy Hare is the last of the original members of Star Fox. He had survived the skirmish on Venom and barely escaped after being captured by Andross loosing his closest friend, James McCloud, in the process. His skills as an ace pilot proves him as a formidable flight instructor and a great mentor to the newer generation of Star Fox.
Peppy and James McCloud have been closest friends dating prior before the Lylat Wars. When James formed a mercenary business Peppy followed with the idea and together they formed "Star Fox". Throughout that time Peppy had been with James along with Pigma Dengar in service with the Cornerian Army. When they were assigned to investigate Venom they were betrayed by Pigma and Peppy, along with James, was captured by Andross. Through the struggle of escaping, Peppy was the only one who made it out alive. He had lost a friend and made an enemy with no other option but head back to Corneria to tell Fox the bad news about his fathers death. Before James died, Peppy made a promise that if anything would happen to him, he would take care of Fox, and from that point on he had been a second father taking care of Fox until he was old enough to takeover as lead pilot of the Star Fox Team.
Five years after the previous events, Andross launched an attack on the Lylat System. The Cornerian Army once again hired Team Star Fox, of which Peppy was still a member. They all flew through the Lylat System, destroying Andross' outposts and his Lieutenants in an effort to get to Venom and defeat Andross. Along the way, they came across Team Star Wolf, which Pigma became a member of. Each time they met them, Star Wolf was defeated.
Peppy gave advice to the team on what to do in certain situations, such as barrel rolling and somersaulting to avoid enemies and other obstacles. These pieces of advice proved to be invaluable for Fox McCloud and helped him eventually defeat Andross.
At the time of the Saurian Incident, Peppy had retired from active flight duty. He mainly spent his time on Great Fox leading the team from there.
Peppy did not go with Fox to the surface of Sauria. Instead he helped Fox by showing him the map of the planet, if he contacted him. Many times he also was the one who explained the meaning of elements of the planet, such as the SpellStones. He also got Fox back on task after he began losing himself staring at Krystal.
When the Aparoids had begun their invasion, Peppy's flight role was replaced entirely by Krystal. He supervised them from Great Fox.
Throughout the invasion, Peppy would remain in constant contact with the rest of the team, telling them of events that were going on while they were fighting. During the counterattack on Corneria, as General Pepper was falling in his recently defeated flagship after Fox defeated the Aparoids controlling him, Peppy flew in in an Arwing to cushion Pepper's fall. Although it hurt Peppy on impact slightly, it saved General Pepper from being killed in the fall.
During the Invasion of the Aparoid Homeworld, Great Fox, ROB-NUS 64, and Peppy were slowly being infected in the final elements of the main planet battle. In a last ditch effort, he flew the heavily damaged Great Fox into the Light Shield protecting the planet core. It broke through the shield for a brief amount of time, destroying Great Fox and presumably killing Peppy. Later on the Aparoid Queen impersonates him to fool Fox into joining the Aparoids.
After finally defeating the Aparoids and destroying the Queen, Peppy's distress beacon was picked up by the team. He had survived by using Great Fox's bridge, which could double as an escape pod, alongside ROB. They then all returned to Corneria safely.
General Pepper had given Peppy his rank as General of the Cornerian Army at the time of the Anglar Directorate invasion. As Star Fox began reassembling, they came in contact with Peppy again. Although he had to still deal with being the General of the Cornerian Army, he had his daughter, Lucy Hare, fight alongside them. (It is unknown where he and Star Fox ended up, since Star Fox Command has no defined canon ending.)
