Sector Z is the third nebula cloud and region in the Lylat System. With likeness to its name, it is roughly shaped like the letter "Z." As with the other nebulae, scientists do not know exactly how it formed, although they are certain it is not a natural formation. Due to high mag flux and ship debris, this is considered the most dangerous nebula out of the three.

History

Pre-Lylat Wars

During the formation of the Lylat System, a cloud of space dust particles came together to form the three nebulae of the system. Scientists have dubbed these regions Sector X, Sector Y, and Sector Z. Although their origins and theories of origin are unknown or not presented, scientists believe that none of the three nebula are natural formations.

Also peculiar is the triangle fomation among the three sectors. This formation has been said to cause Solar to remain a genesis planet and be the source of relatively unknown regions of space known as the "Warp Zones."

The nebula played an important part as a battleground in the Pirate Wars. A battle had raged on in the sector between Cornerian Army forces and Space Pirates. It is unknown of the outcome, but wreckage from the battle still floats within the sector. This, coupled with high magnetic fluctuation, makes travel in the region extremely hazardous.

Lylat Wars

The region became important again during the Lylat Wars. Team Star Fox used the sector as a staging area on its assault on Venom. Andross anticipated the move and set a trap in the sector for them. Great Fox was ambushed by hoards of Invader-III Fighters. Star Fox retalliated by taking to their Arwings. Quickly the first attack wave was dispatched.
The trap was not fully sprung yet, however. Several missiles began careening towards Great Fox. Realizing this, Fox McCloud and his wingmen began to attack the missiles, also hitting the fighters when needed. The first two waves were taken out quickly, but in a final push, the Venomian Army launched the three remaining missiles at once. With the help of Katt Monroe, those missiles were destroyed as well, and Great Fox was able to escape with no damage.

Anglar Directorate Invasion

After Team Star Wolf had destroyed the Anglar headquarters in the Venomian sea, they scattered. Krystal flew away from her new teammates and did not know where they went.

Star Fox had just come from Aquas and were waiting for an assault to come to them in Sector Z. Krystal managed to find them in the sector and aided the team fight back an Anglar attack. Upon the finish of the battle, Krystal rejoined the team as Fox rallied the team to head into the Meteo Asteroid Field and destroy the Anglar Emperor, thus being rid of the threat once and for all.

(It is unknown wether this is the true ending or not, as Star Fox Command has no defined ending.)
