| Solar is a magma planet within the Lylat System. It is a genesis planet that, for an unknown reason, has not cooled down to form a solid mass. Theories have suggested it to be from the Sector X-Y-Z Triangle Correlation, although this has never exactly been proven. The planet was a key site during the Lylat Wars and the Anglar Directorate Invasion.
Solar was formed alongside the entirety of the Lylat System. However, while the rest of the planets had undergone a cementation, Solar had not, remaining in a "genesis" state. Exactly why is unknown, as the planets around it had undergone their solidification. Some scientists have suggested that this was a phenomenon caused by the triangular alignment of Sector X, Sector Y, and Sector Z, although no information proving or disproving this theory has clearly been stated.
During the Lylat Wars, Andross used the magma planet to construct a bio-weapon made of magma itself. Team Star Fox ventured into the planet's surface and made a run to try and destroy it. As they ventured across the planet, the Arwing's shields became damaged over time from the extreme heat, and sometimes they depleted all together. Star Fox ended up fighting the Gores, as they attacked the Arwings for an unknown reason, possibly being that they were defending their home. At the end of their run on Solar, they came across Andross' bio-weapon: a massive magma monster. By attacking its magma shieldings, Star Fox was able to destroy it and free Solar.
Solar again became a place of interest during the Anglar Directorate Invasion. The Anglar had set in orbit a solar-powered defense satellite over Solar. Fox McCloud and Falco Lombardi enlisted the help of Team Star Wolf's leader Wolf O'Donnell to destroy it. At the end of the skirmish, the trio managed to tip the satellite into the magma, melting it as it fell to the planet surface. (An odd note here is that Solar now has some landmass, whereas it is truly entirely composed of magma.)
The planet is inhabited by a specialized species adapted to survive in the magma known as the Gore. These creatures are able to survive living in the magma on Solar's surface. They are rather mysterious creatures, which intrigued Andross. This showed him that life was able to survive a myriad of temperatures and harsh conditions.
A debate had risen up among fans as to wether or not Solar is the star of the Lylat System or it is a magma planet and that Lylat is actually the star. In the English version of Star Fox 64, it is known as the star of the Lylat System, but in the Japanese version Lylat is. As confirmed by Nintendo, Solar is in fact a magma planet, not the proposed star; the idea sprang up from a translation issue between Japanese and English. Solar is in fact confirmed to officially be a G-class magma genesis planet on the Star Fox 64 official page, but in the Star Fox 64 strategy guide it states Solar as a red dwarf star. In Star Fox Command, it is quoted that Solar is a planet. This back and forth motion of Solar's form debate is one of the largest controversies amongst Star Fox fans.
